So decided to watch Mirror Mask, a movie with pretty amazing reviews and good production values. It wasnt showing on many theaters and the only one close by was the Aquarius in Palo Alto. I never watched there before but how bad can it be?
Bad, for a movie theater that charges $9.50 for a movie, the place was cramped, if the place was burning, the people would have to climb some stairs before getting to the exit, uncomfortable seats and there are boxes where the stage is.. Oh even though the temperature outside was chilly, the theater was annoyingly warm and the clowns who work there didnt bother switching on the air conditioning till the movie was 3/4ths done. Pretty much ruined the movie...

The movie has a bit of a standard look, predictable story but pretty straight forward. Kind of like an old fairy tale, little girl rebels against her mother, mother goes to the hospital, little girl goes into a dimension where all her drawings come alive and ruled by a queen of light and queen of shadow. She ends saving the dimension by trying to find a Mirror Mask because apparently she was the queen of shadow's daughter's twin and the daughter was some stuck up kid who switch dimensions with her. (Are you still with me?) The ending wa kind of quick and good since I was really trying to get out of the crappy theater. Overall, not a bad movie, just not my kind of movie.. Production design? Middeteranean houses + Cirque de Soliel costumes + Lots and lots of gold paint. (Never saw a clown in this movie, odd since they are supposed to be Circus performers)
